What brown ales do you recomend

Post by Stray59 »

Hi,

Just wondering what brown ale you would recomend a "new to brewing person".

And any tips in brewing it would be appreciated

Cheers

I made a Newcastle Brown about 2 months ago using a Brewcreft Newcastle Brown kit with 500g dextrose, 250g darke dried malt and 250g maltodextrin. At first it was a bit too sweet, not as dry as its commercial namesake but in the time since it has mellowed into a thoroughly drinkable beer. Will add hops next time.

On the weekend I mixed up a Coopers dark ale with a can of liquid dark malt, 125g of choc malt and a Fuggles hop bag. Its the first time I have used choc malt and I think I may have over done it, when I checked the OG I had a taste and it had a really strong grainy burnt taste which I am hoping will disappear after fermenting and bottling.

Cheers.
