My lovely wife has purchased my Birthday presents today. 1 case of Little Creatures All Sorts and 1 case of 06 Coopers Vintage......07 on sale Tuesday at the local, birthday on Monday . I'll just have to buy that one myself I am going to store the 06's (maybe 12) with 12 of the 07's for a few years to compare.....I hope

I have forced myself to try the all sorts Little Creatures tonight with my wife at work . She'll understand

Rogers, lacking in oomph, minor aroma, not bad mouthfeel for a "light" 3.8% Light Malt taste which was a nice change for a light.

Bright Ale, disappointed as I have heard rave reviews. Left a little wanting in the hops dept, mouthfeel OK. Not a bad beer, but I think I was expecting better than LCPA before first sip.

Pilsner, Lovely mouthfeel, aroma nice, not the hops smell a HB'er used too though , better than the 2 above by a mile.

LCPA, had it before, just cracking now, nice .Not the best LCPA I've had, I reckon there is a minor difference in taste. Could be the beers I've had before this

On tonights performance, the Pilsner wins , hang on just sipped the LCPA again, smooth very smooth. I'll call it a tie.

First time LC Pilsner drinker, very nice indeed

Was wandering around Dan Murphy's trying to decide on a case of beer. The allsorts case got me. The beer that stood out to me was the Rodgers - pretty bloody ordinary. The other 3 were nice. But not so great I'd buy another case.

I'd definitely get the Pale Ale and Pilsener, but the others I'd leave.

Not telling my wife that though, "bloody beautiful my lovely gorgeous wife"

If you compare the Rogers to other "1 standard drink" beers, it's OK, but it is not in esteemed company

I think the LCPA is my favourite, and let's face it, many of us are trying to brew a copy. I also love the Pilsener, but it is not as good as the Wicked Elf Pilsner produced by The Little Brewing company in Port Macquarie. Theirs has a fantastic Saaz flavour and aroma, more than any other commercial Pils I have tried in Oz.

The party was great, they all bought me beer, funny about that.......Started at 12 noon finished at 6pm (Lotsa kids) and all the fellas were tanked to the hilt.

I had some JS Amber, Coopers 06 Vintage, Furstenburg, the 4 LCPA range, some HB..........big day.

Oh and my mate dropped me in 1/2 a case of Coopers 07 on Wed for my Birthday too.....yum.

It's available at Lighthouse Cellars in Watonga St, Lighthouse Beach. I buy it from there for about $13 for a 4 pack. Not the cheapest beer around, but definitely the best commercial beer available in Port Macquarie (well, OK, Coopers is also available). Enjoy your visit to Port. My brother who works in the Netherlands, (he's a big wig in a shipyard) was out here recently on business and paid us a flying visit. He reckoned we live in paradise. Who am I to disagree?

Picked up a 4 pack + 1 single. Tried the latter in Port after a couple of my UBru4U hophead pilseners. Amazingly similar.

Now that I'm back home, I will do a side by side tasting to see just how similar they really are. My UBru4U works out at around $1 a 330ml bottle.

Will post tasting results shortly.

Of course, the brewer of Wicked Elf started out as a home brewer in I think Wagga Wagga, and quickly moved into AG brewing. He now has I think a degree in wine making and also brewing.
Will be interested to see your thoughts.

Hi Warra,

Am sitting at my laptop with 2 glasses of beer. My wife expressed concern and accepted my explanation somewhat dubiously. Anyway, down to business:

Beers served at 9degC. Too warm for some, but that's as low as my wine fridge will go, and I have found my beers to be much tastier in the last couple of years since storing them in this manner.

Beers poured into identical Holsten logo stemmed glasses, both of which were washed with beer glass cleaner earlier in the day and rinsed thoroughly.

Observations:

Colour: Both golden pilsener style, with the HHP (Hop Head Pilsener) just a tad darker.

Head: Poured WEP (Wicked Elf Pilsner) first - nice white head, but outdone aesthetically by the snow white head of HHP.

Carbonation: No discernible difference bewteen the two - both produced a fine bead.

Aroma: WEP had a slightly more pronounced Saaz aroma.

Taste: It is a matter of personal preference isn't it? Both beers had good hop bitterness, but I found I preferred the pronounced hop aftertaste of WEP.

Conclusion: I am a hard marker, so I'll only go as far as stating that, on a scale of 20, I rated WEP 0.2 ahead of HHP.

Will be discussing with my UBru4U man how I can close the gap.

WEP is every bit as good as you state Warra. Good boutique beers always kill commercial mega swill.

Went to the Little Creatures Brewery in WA last Christmas, Pale Ale out of the vat. What a treat mm mm

The pale ale was my favourite beer for a long time (in fact, shortly after I started drinking beer, I had it at the brewery, and it started a passion )

However I have found there is a lot of batch variation. Which may in part be down to the age of the beer and the conditions bottles have been stored in. From the tap it's consistently pretty good.

However, the Rogers is one of my favourite beers. Why? because I can take a 6 pack to a party, and drive home. It's incredibly easy drinking and smooth, and it's consistently good. Better than any other midstrength beer I' remember drinking.

The bright was a bit tart for me (although I've only ever tried it twice at the brewery - and I had already had a few pints of pale ale.) Don't honestly remember what the pils was like, so obviously didn't strike me as anything super special.
