Coopers Sparkling

Post by Jeff »

Wanted to clone a Coopers Sparkling so bought a Thomas Coopers Sparkling Ale kit. Also bought the suggested liquid malt, however the man at the HBS recommended against adding the rest of the recipe on the can (from memory some dextrose and light dry malt) as it would make the brew too high in alcohol (6%+).

I'm wondering if this is the case or whether part of the stuff will be in the form of unfermentables. I don't really want the beer to be too strong but likewise do not want it to be a light beer! Around the 5% would be good I reckon.

Yeah Jeff. I did the recipe as suggested. I think it was the can, 1.5kg LME, some dextrose and something else. Turned out at 6.8%. Too much alcohol for that style I found.

I'd just go with the can and the LME and maybe a bit of hops.

Oliver I think posted a recipe. It looked rather good and I though tI would try it but I have lost it somewhere.

The Sparkling Ales I've made (I've done a few of them) always come out fantastically. Very close to the stubbies you buy from the store (sometimes with a creamier mouth feel though ...... that I like). I follow the suggested ingrediants in the instructions (hard not to when it comes out so good).

I'd make it full strength, it's worth it (though people that sample it usually feel to p!$$ed to drive home   ). Last time I checked it, I'm still not sure if I believe the SG reading before and after, but it calculated out at 7.8%  Certainly you can't drink them before you go for a spin upto the shops !!

Coopers sparkling

Post by brain »

I've brewed a batch coopers sparkling ale (in fact i'm drinking it now!) and used the following ingriedients as recomended in the kit.

1.5 kg liquid light malt.
500g dry light malt.
300g dextrose.

The only thing I did differently was to make a starter- 4 tblesp light dry malt 500ml water a while before and once it got going I pitched that in.

I wouldn't say it tastes exactly like Coopers sparkling ale but it's a good drop. Alcohol content of 6.0%
