City to Surf

Post by Boonie »

Have a look for me in the city to surf fun run....I'll be the one waving at the camera

But seriously, I'll be the one in the running (soccer) shorts, tank top  and joggers.

My mate has decided (see: no training), to make this year a sight seeing event.........ie we're going to stop at every pub from the start to finish.

It took him 25 seconds to talk me into it.

Look for 2 guys diving into the pub at the 3k mark at Double Bay  actually, crawling might be a better description.

Big day, kicks off at 3.30am, drive down, Maccas for Breakfast, check in, run, drink, run, drink, run drink, finish, straight to pub for mandatory 6 schooners after race, lunch, walk back, shower, pub crawl to casino, pub crawl to cross, pub crawl back home at around 2am, 23 hours of fun

Edit, Bacon and Eggs brekkie at hotel, 100 bucks worth of Krispy Kremes on the way home between 4 of us

Cheers

Boonie

23 hours...pssshhhttt...we call that an easy day back home ;)

Seriously though I did something similar for new years of 2000 and I am glad I am here to tell the story!

Best of luck.
Prost and happy brewing!

I'm taking the C2S seriously this year.  Look for me in blue shorts, gray T and a Coopers Cap. I am hoping to do it in 60 mins.

That's a seriously good time. You must be a man with either lot's of natural ability, or someone who's been training conscientiously. At my best I could only manage just under 60 mins, back in the days when I ran about 8 km everyday.
Good luck to all, enjoy the day, and have lots of fun.
I'll be hosting an 85th birthday BBQ for the father in law. My wife is on notice that all the rellies will have to drink my HB or go thirsty, as I'm not planning to buy any commercial brews. Still, they'll have a choice of 2 amber ales, a bitter, 2 pale ales, a porter, and a stout.

Update 12.8.07 The last of the rellies have departed. The vote for the best beer went to Boonie's LCPA recipe. Hope you survived the run.

To train for a 14 km run with a killer hill takes 2 years to reach your full portential IMHO, so you might as well just make it a fun day. Can't beat the atmosphere of a C2S run. I did my first one in 1981 when Deaks won, although he did it a little quicker than I did.

That's a great time anyway, considering the crowded conditions. At any other event it would translate to a 4 min per km run, which gets you into serious runner territory. Congratulations, and well done.

I made it.....just a hint, don't run with beer in belly

My mate and I had a plan to pace ourselves, ie no training at all done and a bit of a beer belly......he has the body of a god, buddha.

We stopped at the pub where the band was playing Metallica and AC/DC, 3 k's in and sank a lovely CPA, whilst listening to 2 songs.

We stopped at every drink station to pour water over us and have a Gatorade or 2......

Left my mate at the 10k mark as he could not run/walk/run and he told me to "Just Go" + we could not locate any more Pubs, besides the ones at the end  I ran the last 4k's in 20 Minutes 8)

Past the post at 103.08 minus 5 minutes for the delayed start (second gun/siren). 98 minutes  worst time ever by a mile. Our other 2 mates, one beat me by a minute and I beat the other by 10 minutes....needless to say they were not happy given with their times given I had stopped for a schooner and ran with Buddha

After, 4 Schooners at pub, back to hotel, shower, back to pub, go to casino, won some money, spent alot too, converted my mates to drinking LCGA too, and off to Cross, sleep, breakfast, Krispy Kremes and off home, great weekend......oh and a big blister on foot

Cheers

Getting closer: 60:49

Waiting now to see a net time as 2008 is the first time that C2S used timing chips, so we get to know 'gun' & 'net' times.*

Cheers,
Greg

* Gun time is from when the gun went off to when you finish. Net time is the time from when you cross the start line to when you cross the finish line.

I recently heard a funny story about a 104 year old French man who ran the marathon there in 10 hours. He stopped every 2 hours to drink 2 litres of beer, and then drank a further 4 litres after the finish. Sunds like my kind of run!
Prost and happy brewing!
