A bit quiet here?

Post by drsmurto »

Not much action lately - is it just me or has all the recent abuse made people turn to other forums for beer discussion?

Normally there are a few dozen posts for me to check each morning (I dont have the internet at home) but the last few days i am struggling to find 6 new posts...... Even the coopers club forum seems livelier........ :(

Just a suggestion to the mods - how about that sticky in the recipe section for tried and tested recipes? I think new visitors need something to read other than threads of abuse. Just me. I go elsewhere now for a majority of my info, particularly when it comes to AG brewing but i havent turned my back on kit brewers and still think i have something to contribute - hard when i dont have an audience....

If you look back at the member list you will see a lot of names no longer here with 100s of posts - did all these people leave due to similar abuse or did they just outgrow this place?

Or maybe i just have too much time on my hands and feel the need to up my post count with something other than a token emoticon......

It's been interesting to watch how the culture here has changed over the time I've been here. There were a lot more experienced brewers when I first got here, the likes of Wassa, Dogger, TL, etc. Some have gone for good, others still lurk and occasionally put in their two cents' worth.

Now it seems that most OPs are beginners who have basic questions to ask but get intimidated by AHB and other forums. That and the trolls who are just interested in their petty arguments. It's a pity really, because the community here used to be very friendly and inviting.

Oh well, the only constant is change.

FWIW, I reckon this place is friendly enough.

You always get a bit of abuse in life. Roll with the punches :)

You`ll find when there`s no one getting kicked in the balls, no eye gouging and bloodletting, people get bored and tend to drift away. They love to see someone get a good arsekicking.
The purists can throw up their hands in horror all they like , but it`s a proven fact, folks. You don`t think the Colosseum lasted 300 years because the crowds wanted poetry, do you?

The mods are aware of the problem and it should be alright for the time being Doc.

I do not believe it keeps anyone coming back and I am sure it has and will continue to drive people away. I know I come here alot less lately...
Prost and happy brewing!

 :?

I think you will find there are quite a few people who feel the same. He was trying to call attention to the problem, not contribute to it.

My sentiments are with the doc. I like this forum, but I do agree it has had more than its fair share of posts which are perhaps too personal or below the belt. I'll keep supporting the forum, in the hope it settles down, as there are still a lot of informative and useful posts.
The mods job is difficult, they need to strike a balance between good natured banter and digging, as against downright personal abuse. We are supposed to be adults, and should not have to be treated like a class of school kids.

Post number 4 is the definitive answer. Just remember it and you`ll be alright :)

Yes, but this isn't life. This is a small-ish group of people who have a common interest in brewing. That's what this forum is (hopefully still) about.

Trust points are rare around here these days. SMOI was a knowledgable fellow. http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/i ... 5596&st=35

You can't have growth in a forum (or community for that matter) if it in itself can be out grown.

Quality advice vs. people just posting for the sake of sounding experienced. How about a sticky? :P

Anyways it's been fun.... well...
