Decided today to make an 'experiment' batch - firstly so i don't waste a lot of ingredients if it doesn't come out how i want, and secondly to step up a Duvel starter from a Cooper's 740ml to a 2L bottle.
I have a few empty 2L Port flagons, and am using one as a carboy to make a 1.5L batch as follows:
280g LDME
50g Home-made light candi sugar
20g Light crystal malt, steeped approx 30 mins
6g Saaz 2.5%AA, 60 mins
2g Saaz 20 mins
2g Saaz into carboy with hot wort
Approx 1g baker's yeast as nutrient (can't do any harm, might help)
Did a full-wort boil (all up would have boiled almost 2.5L of water at a guess to maintain the approx 1.5 to go into the 'carboy'. Cooled it in the kitchen sink, and pitched a dash of yeast slurry from my thriving Duvel starter.
QBrew says this should come out around 8.5%. If it works out, i'm going to make a full-size batch using the trub from this brew as the yeast for the full-size.. Can make some subtle changes to it at the same time if needed.
Brewing is fun
