LCPA
LCPA
I got a recipe here for a LCPA that came from Brewing Crafts book that i received with my kit. Also came a can of Black Rock Pilsner Blonde so i thought id give this a shot.
Black Rock Pilser Blonde
Brewcraft #15 Brew Booster
Finishing Hops Cascade Pellets 10g
Safale yeast.
I might as well use the Pilsner Blonde Kit i have but does anyone have anything else i could do or change to this recipe to make a better brew?
Thanks
Rob

that brew blend is not the best if you want a fully bodied beer.. i would go a full kilo of light dry malt if you can. It costs a little more, but it really improves the beer.
This was one of the first beers i ever did, and it wasnt too bad... the cascade gives a really nice aroma, and the blonde kit shouldnt give too many conflicting flavours.
That combo should produce a easy drinking beer, but nothing like little creatures pale ale...

Rob,
what i would do is:
sterlilse the fermenter, and add a couple of litres of cool water.
if you by the dry malt, boil the whole kilo in about 2-3L of water for a couple of minutes to help dissolve the malt and to also ensure it is sterile. Make sure it doesnt overflow when it boils.
Let that malt/water cool a little, then pour into the fermenter,
I wouldnt boil the blonde, i would just do the usual heat the can and pour into the fermenter after adding the malt/water. Give it a mix with a sterile spoon to ensure the blonde is mixed.
Top up to 23 with cold water (so the temp is about 20-24C) the lower the better
With that finishing hops, they should be in one of those teabag things, all you need to do is put it in a cup and add boiling water (much the same as making tea) let it sit for 10 minutes, then add the whole lot (water and teabag) into the fermenter at the end just before you add the yeast.
Dont boil that teabag thing or it will burst.
I hope that helps.

Re: LCPA
I'd take a lot of what's in the Brewcraft book with some caution. I have a feeling the author is employed by or is a consultant for Brewcraft. For example, the book tells you to boil specialty grains, which really is a No No.
No reason not to use up the Black Rock kit, but for everything else, I'd recommend you use Boonie's LCPA recipe, or DrSmurto's modified version. You won't regret it. Either makes a beautiful beer.

Re: LCPA
Thanks for the advice Warra. Got rid if the Black Rock kit today, just added 1kg of LDME, 200grams of crystal grains and the cascade hops. Will see how it turns out in a few weeks time.
Would you guys recommend to do a 2ndry fermentation on this?
Cheers
