An american IPA...

Needs a lot more hops. Entered one in SABSOSA and it was deemed not hoppy enough for style. Its was 50 IBU and had 160g of hops added after the 20 min countdown!

So i would suggest you need to either hopburst (get as much of the IBUs you can from 20 mins onwards rather than the traditional 60 min bittering addition) or add a metric shedload at flameout and dry hop).

I personally would ditch carafoam as i see no need for it in AG beers....... lets not go there again.

How much chinook, cluster and cascade do you have? Any other US hops? What about high AA bittering hops?

i've made a few IPAs and APA with high late boil hop additions. They are fantastic if you can afford to use that much hops.

latest was 130g of centennial in the last 5 minutes. (65g at 5 minutes, and 65g at flameout). The smell from the fermenter was intense.

American IPA according to BJCP (and thats the criteria used for beer comps) has OG 1.056 to 1.075, IBU 40-60.

It was a real nice beer but not enough to satisfy the judges.

My English IIPA used more than 260g of hops in 18L. That went down well with the judges. That was 7.5% and 70 IBU. Effin gorgeous it is. Only allow myself 1 longeck in any one sitting otherwise it becomes a tad too difficult to get up from the couch.....

Here's an idea for you.

4.60 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 80.00 %
0.80 kg Munich I (Weyermann) (14.0 EBC) Grain 13.91 %
0.35 kg Caramunich I (Weyermann) (100.5 EBC) Grain 6.09 %
30.00 gm Cluster [7.20 %] (60 min) Hops 25.0 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (20 min) Hops 13.0 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (20 min) Hops 5.5 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (10 min) Hops 3.3 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (10 min) Hops 7.8 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (5 min) Hops 4.3 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (5 min) Hops 1.8 IBU
10.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
20.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -

OG 1.063, IBU 61

A big hoppy American IPA. I foyu want to use up your cluster then maybe add sub it for some of the cascade at 20 mins.

You could go even hoppier by ditching the 60 min addition of cluster and relying completely on the Hopburst concept.

something like this
15.00 gm Cluster [7.20 %] (30 min) Hops 9.6 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (20 min) Hops 13.0 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (20 min) Hops 5.5 IBU
15.00 gm Cluster [7.20 %] (20 min) Hops 7.6 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (10 min) Hops 3.3 IBU
15.00 gm Cluster [7.20 %] (10 min) Hops 4.5 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (10 min) Hops 7.8 IBU
15.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (5 min) Hops 4.3 IBU
15.00 gm Cluster [7.20 %] (5 min) Hops 2.5 IBU
15.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (5 min) Hops 1.8 IBU
20.00 gm Cascade [5.20 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
20.00 gm Chinook [12.40 %] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
