Beer Haze - the morning after...
I poured a three week old brew last night and left a bit in the bottom of the glass in my study over night. This morning the haze has settled out almost completely. Is this something to do with a reaction to oxygen? How can I achieve the clear beer fresh from the bottle? My previous brews have all been a bit cloudy but tasted great. if I can get to the next level of having my beer taste like it does right now and also be clear I would be a happy man.

I'm not worried about haziness... As long as it tastes good I'm happy.
I tend to concentrate on drinking my beer more than looking at it. How often would you look at a commercial beer for clarity?
Easy way to fix it though. Drink it in a ceramic or pewter mug...
But by the looks of you glass alot of yeast / sediment has dropped out allowing it to clear.

Easiest way ive found to clear your beer without filtering is to rack to secondary gelatine after fg is reached and crash chill for at least 24 hrs.Bulk prime
and bottle .When racking be sure to tilt fermentor back slightly and leave a litre or so behind. Cheers Wrighty.

Im not an alchoholic i dont go to the meetings !

If its suffering from chill haze just the warming of the beer would clear it up more.
I rack most brews as I dry hop a lot and don't want hop debris clogging my pick up tube in my kegs. I get pretty clear beer every time even the wheat beers where I have to give the keg a shake to make it cloudy again

I'd say what you are seeing is chill haize, bet it is clear when at room temp???
As long as you leave your brews for a fortnight in the fermenter, you will be getting clear beers, free from most of the sediment any way!

My understanding is that chill haze does not settle out with a sediment at the bottom. Looks like yeast to me but I've never left any beer in the glass to see what it looks like in the morning.

That's what I'm saying, chill haize & sediment are two different things.Bum wrote:My understanding is that chill haze does not settle out with a sediment at the bottom
Minimise the sediment by leaving long enough & let gravity do it's thing, then either get used to the chill haize or add something to stop it ie, Polyclar.
Iv'e found that my AG beers have mad chill haize compared to kit beers which are minimal.
On the odd occasion that I have tried "The Poms method" of drinking an ale at room temp (15 deg for Poms

Looks to me like yeast at the bottom of the glass.
Chill haze will re-dissolve at room temp so its not that.

Mick, the picture clearly shows sediment at the bottom of the glass.billybushcook wrote: That's what I'm saying
