Yeah, I might try G & G. I found a place in Botany, Sydney, who stocks it but they still get theirs from G & G so I may as well order direct.

The place in Botany is called Hop To It (no website) if anyone's interested. Nice guy.

Grumpys sell the 50ml packs that according to instructions require you to make a starter (I don't), whereas Grain & Grape sell the 125ml Activator XL packs that, according to the insutructions, do not require a starter.

Aside from which, all the Wyeast packs you buy from Grumps have an "Imported by Grain & Grape" sticker on them anyway!

I have made starters in the same way from grumpys packs as i do for G+G Packs and both work just as good, if the sticker thing is true ( i havent paid to much attention) then obviously grumpys is the way to go as they are cheaper

I've never made a starter but have had mixed success with the Wyeast packs. After having a lager fail to take off I will be making a starter for all liquid yeasts from now on. Making a starter will save you a lot of worry.

Regardless, you need to plan well ahead before brew days and allow at least 3 days after you smack the pack for it to swell even if you are just going to pour it straight in. Do not believe the instructions on the back!

Depends on the date on it, ive had some that have taken 3 days( 4-6 months old) and others that have been footballs in just a few hours ( 1-2 weeks old) the older they are the longer they will take to expand
