Hi guys,
Well put my first modified kit brew on with the following:
Coopers Real Ale
1KG LDME
500g Dextrose
250g Corn Syrup
250g Crystal Malt
12.5g POR Hops
Safale S.04 @ average of 19 degrees.
OG was 1059 and it is currently sitting on 1021, now it has only been on 5 days but this is the second day constant at 1021 and it was furiously bubbling away those first couple of days.
My question is regarding the ingredients is a FG of 1021 normal? Or should it be smaller and if so should I repitch?
Either way I will be letting it sit for at least another 5 or so days before bottling to allow it to settle.
Thanks for the help guys like I said before, trying to get as much info as I can as I'm only starting out!

Hi Wambesi,
I don't know how accurate it is but the calculator here: http://www.liquorcraft.com.au/wa.asp?id ... etails=107
gives estimated OG and FG readings based on your ingredients - just put your details in and assuming the kit is 1.7Kg and you made up to 23 Litres, it suggests that your OG and FG should be 1.057 and 1.016. Alcohol 6.2%.
Anybody know if this is a good guide?
Cheers,
hadders

Lethal,
I've noticed with the 2 brews I've done so far that the FG hasn't been as low as the "suggested" FG on either the Kit or with the Calculator above. Obviously I understand higher gravities than the kit suggests if I add other ingredients, but not sure why there would be differences otherwise.
For my last brew the calculator predicted an OG/FG of 1.042/1.011 but I actually got 1.044/1.014. When is a difference big enough that I should worry? Or should I just chill out and let it be?
Cheers
