What annoys me ...

Post by Furby »

Well, most of you would probably be thinking..."And my care factor in microns would be?"

I will try not to be the 'Idiot in search of a Village here', but I'm curious as to the sudden lock of a thread because a couple of punters were just airing their thoughts and having a slight spar.
Now don't get me wrong Mod's, I am not one for flaming or trashing others on a site and I believe you do a great job upholding your responsibilities, however, lets be a little realistic here. Don't you think it was a touch hasty of a reaction? If your finger's that twitchy on a lock button I would hate to see how quick it was on a trigger!

We do have a right to freedom of speech, unless this has changed recently, and I personally could not see any great defamatory remarks which would insult the persons in question, nor the rest of the beer swilling community.
Of course, I would understand much clearer had someone stepped in and posted a comment such as ... "Settle Petals" ... or even ... "You've had your say now lets be respectful, Kiss and make up please".
But I guess I'm not a Mod ... Am I?

Anyways, that's just my views .... Hey, guess what ... It still is true ... Freedom of Speech is alive and kicking.

BTW ... As said ... All due respect to the Mod's

Have a nice day ..

I assume you refer to my locking of this thread.

It had the look and feel of a thread that was going to turn into a screaming match over hitting the right buttons etc, as it was not going anywhere anyway I simply shut it down before people got their noses out of joint. I did consider the settle down suggestion, but it has a poor track record.

BTW, I've moved this to forum support & suggestions where it belongs.

Cheers,
Greg

Furby...

Although i'm not a mod here, i can see why it was locked. Based on previous instances, it was a sensible move ;)

Also, this forum being privately owned, there's technically no such thing as free speech on here.

I am suprised it doesn't happen more often... after all it is an open forum filled with beer obsessed drunks

Ours posts are not press statements and greg is not the government (or is he?) the rules on here are actually fairly lax! I am sure if you hang around for a while you will get in a spat at one point or another.

He came to us for help, and twice in a week he just confused us more than we would have liked. So maybe a couple people let him know this so that he wouldn't do it again, I really didn't see any harm in it, but I do understand why it needed to be locked before harm was done (either to or by him). The thread really was useless from the start, it just went down hill from there :?

I realise I was part of the problem and I am sorry for being so abrupt with the kid, but why are you so interested?
Prost and happy brewing!

i already help with administration/moderation on another forum - one with about 5 times the number of members as this one. i've already mentioned to oliver in the past that i'd be happy to help if any further help was required, and if everyone else was happy with that - mainly spam removal etc etc - but i can take it or leave it. really doesn't make much difference to me.

Actually, we don't. This is a common misconception which I think comes from the right to free speech enshrined in the U.S. constitution. The Australian constitution doesn't say anything about free speech.

As far as i know the only freedom of speech we have is regarding politics but yeah nothing saying that freedom of speech actually exists anywhere else in Oz

I think he was referring to the freedom of press which is mentioned in the consitiution, which is why I referred to it as such.
