Life span of equipment.

Post by lang »

Just wondering what others may think, do you recon that plastic brewing kit carboys/barrels have a time to renew date, I have been using two such now for about four years and although I try to keep everything very clean and obey the rules ,I have had a couple of brews a bit off lately and was thinking maybe it could be the barrels have minute scratch marks from constant washing, never use anything but a towling, and are holding a bit of wild stuff that I can't get rid of. I change taps and seals often, just have kept the original barrels. I really do pay attention to clean and hopefully as best as possible hygiene. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

They would have a use by date but I don't know what it is. I've used 2 buckets for over 50 brews between them and the inside surface does feel a little rough but they are still going with no infections.
