Re: New coopers pack
Saw it as well.
They recommend 500g LDME as the ideal recipe.
That sounds pretty light.
Who's gonna be the first to try it...at $20.00 I'm holding back.

I won't be, but then again I am not a fan of bitters.
Much prefer a nice fruity Ale or a crisp dry lager.

Re: New coopers pack
Just heard from someone that contacted Coopers about the price of the kit. They said that there has been a mistake and it's priced incorrectly at the supermarkets.
As it is an International series it should be priced the same as the other kits in that series...that is about $13.00 something.
Cheers

Re: New coopers pack
Hey guys, I purchased one from Coles the other day (just because it was new!).
I'll let you know what I do with the kit - haven't done K&K in a while as I've been experimenting with extracts but I'd say it'll be kept simple to get a good idea of what the base kit is like.
At this early stage let's go with:

1kg LDME (not sure why I should only do the recommended 500g?!?!)

Re: New coopers pack
i guess the bitter they have in the UK usually isn't that high in alcohol and the lower amount of LDME reflects this? i'd imagine possibly the 500g LDME plus 250g steeped crystal might go well
Re: New coopers pack
Brewbeast,
I think you are spot on.
I vaguely remember reading that an English bitter is about 3ABV. The 500g of malt would explain this.
Also, it should be noted that Coopers have discontinued their "Bitter" range. I picked up a can for $6.00 a few days ago.
So the English Bitter is the replacement.
I can't see too many Aussie brewers heading for 3 ABV for the sake of "authentic taste".
Cheers

Re: New coopers pack
I was in my local Coles today, and saw the kit still outrageously priced at $20
Obviously they didn't get the memo

Yeah, I emailed Coopers about this, they've now sorted it out with Coles. The English Bitter is now the same price as other cans in the International range - around $13.79.
