Just put down my first real own brew.
half a can of malt extract (0.55l)
500g of dextrose
500g of dried wheat malt
10 g of tettenanger hop pellets
boiled for 30 mins
then at flame out added 250g of honey, stirred and sat for 5 mins then added to fermenter
topped up to 12 litre and pitched safbrew wb-06 at 24.
SG 1048....
My first brew using malt extract.Opinions please.
Re: My first brew using malt extract.Opinions please.
Should work out ok, although at first glance it looks a tad under-bittered, even for a wheat style. If you don't already use one, perhaps look at some of the brewing software around to calculate IBUs and malt/hop balance.
This is a handy link too

Hope it turns out nicely!

When my drinking affects my work the solution is easy. Stop working.
I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy.
I save Champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends.

I have not used WB06, but with the liquid hefe strains, the general concensus is to drink them as soon as they are carbed (after a few days refridgeration) because they are in their prime super fresh.
QBrew is pretty light on features, but it is free. http://www.usermode.org/code.html
Beersmith is about $30 and is pretty good, though definitely not perfect. http://www.beersmith.com/
Promash is used by a lot of home brewers and insustry people, but it feels like I am playing Dungeons and Dragons http://www.promash.com/
I just did a quick job in Beersmith and for 12L I would do 1.5kg dry wheat extract + 9-14g tettnanger at 60 mins (rough IBU range of 8-15)
Great stuff with going extract, keep it up and let everyone know if you are successful.
