Post by JBTREP »

G'day Guys,

How much dex or plain sugar should I use in 750ml bottles to get a nice amount of fizz?

Cheers

I use a teaspoon of either in my 750ml's. Carbs up nice in most brews after 2-4 weeks.

The amount of carbonation depends on the style of beer you brew.

I tend to use a total of 120 to 140 gr of caster sugar per 23 litre batch.

I use one of those little sugar measures you get at your HB shop. They tend to dispense sugar at the top of the range, so I usually throttle it back a bit.

It, of course, depends on how large your teaspoons at home are, but last year I bottled a batch of pale ale for Xmas with two level teaspoons of dextrose and it worked a treat. They were relatively small teaspoons...

Cheers,

I was talking about a correct measure teaspoon not one out the cutlery drawer! Think the measure is just under 5gm. If I'm priming an ale I tend to throttle back a tad as Warra mentioned.
