Aussie brewers save precious water - SMH 14th Nov 2007
Australia's decade-long drought has forced brewers to slash the amount of water they use in making beer, in some cases by almost half, as pressure grows on industry to cut wastage.
Queensland this week introduced the strictest water ...
I wanted to run an idea past you, I'm sure some of you may already do it. I'm toying with the idea of putting my filtered water (20L) into the fridge the day before I brew. I've got a fridgemate so can set the temp. That way when I put my hot malt/hops/can in it won't take as long to reach ...
Wow.... I measure 20g of hops by putting a little less that half a 50g packet in. You don't want to see me meausuring the water to go in the fermenter  I reckon the amount of liquid in the fermenter would alter by close to a litre depending on how level I hold out the measuring cylinder while ...
That gives me enough to start experimenting, I found a site that recommended baking in the oven, and another that suggested sitting it in alcohol then adding, but boiling sounds like the best way to start.
I'm now the proad owner of some lengths of Oak from a wine barrel. I've already chucked a few pieces on the barbie to flavour a roast and I'm keen to get some happening in my beer.
I figure I should chop it up, boil it well before adding to the fermenter.
I recently made a GB and got the same smell, posted it on here a few weeks ago. It has improved over time and is now drinkable but not completly gone. A few more weeks should see it through.
I was told by a winemaking buddy that it was due to poor temp control - did you keep an eye on the ...
Before I freak out and go and get my liver replaced could you describe what nasties we are talking about, how much worse it is through re-use and what health effects we possible?
May have to just use the PET for my mates
I currently have the Xtract lager in the fridge lagering at the moment and from what I can tell it has nothing on the wertpack lager. I'm keen to do both the Oak Ale and the Wheat Beer, if they are anything like the Lager they should be awesome!
Noodles, I just opened my first bottle from my Wetpack lager, it's been in the bottle for 3 weeks. I shared it with my wife last night and it was the nicest tasting beer we've ever had, I now know why homebrewers get so fanatical about their brews and can only imagine how good a well made AG would ...
Thanks OldBugMan for the poetic slant!!! Looks like I may have to go get some more Saflager as it sounds like you can't pitch a different yeast back in.
I had a lager lagering away as you do with a fridge I've only just bought... I have a fridgemate on it's way but in the meantime have been using a timer to keep the fridge about right. So when it came time to lager I just put the fridge on low and let it go.
Yeah we were actually quite impressed when he started picking up wine corks and sniffing them, just got to teach him to say "hmmm slight hint berry with some pepper overtones"
Yeah I've tried it... Tastes more like Vegemite than Beer I reckon. If it's really cold, and your really thirsty, and there is no beer then it is slightly more tasty than drinking used car oil.
I have a mate who went off the piss a while back and started drinking those, he then switched to some ...
After contacting many unhelpful electricians and repairs centres I know that is a very generous offer. Mine should be all boxed up by next week but thankyou.
Biggles,
I'm in a similar boat one of my son's 1st words "cheers!". My wife and I took a week off the booze after that ...
Sound advice I guess, I had a think about and thought despite the ease at which it would be to put one together I best get someone with some know-how and called in a mate in Nowra who's a retired sparky.
It's worth knowing it's safe with an 18 month old screaming round the house and ...
Well I got over my discinclination to wire one of these up.... Called around a few sparkies and even went to an appliance store and didn't get a quote less than $150.... Sydney
It all seems pretty easy but I'm a little concerned that the diagram seems to indicate that you would need three ...
