If i had gone with all 30 odd, probably would have ruined the whole batch.

Quick update - was really worried about how dark the wheat beer looked when i first put it on. Been fermenting a few days down and the colour is lookin great!

That cardomom pod idea sounds like it could be ...

Just to throw my to bobs in, I use the bleach mix for my bottles and never had a problem. Cheap, easy & effective!

I still use the Sodium Met on the fermenter cause I read on the site (I think Oliver said it) that the smell of the bleach may be difficult to rinse from the plastic.

Cheers,
Bob

Steam Clean Bottles?

Caught up with the in-laws on the weekend and was discussing the virtues of homebrewing, as you do. I mentioned that the only annoying aspect was sanitising the bottles. They suggested using a steam cleaner. You know those home cleaning appliances you see advertised on infomercials. Supposedly there ...

Producing good head?

Happy Monday Chaps,

Not to be rude, but like most lads I like a good head.

What gives beer its head? Does this differ between ales & lagers?

Bottle conditioning has just finished for my latest brew. The carbonation level is great, but it has little to no head  (The fermentables were ...

Well done lads!

The guy at my homebrew shop said that the rule of thumb was a 0.5% increase in alcohol level for every litre of water reduced. So unless the unchanged attenuation assumption peterd mentioned is in fact invalid, it would seem that my HBS rule of thumb greatly over stated the change ...

Fitzroy Amber Ale

Morning lads, you aw’right

Had a sensational ale last night – Fitzroy Amber Ale.

The pale ale they produce is decent, but not the same league as Coopers. Their amber ale on the other hand is brilliant! Very smooth with a great after taste that me mate described as “peachish”. I don’t ...
