Cold Secondary

I know this has been asked before; but i don't remember any definit conclusion.

I just bottled a brew and stored it in my icy cold shed. Will the yeast settle enough to become unavailable to priming sugar before secondary fermentation is complte ?

I'm talking a seriously cold shed here. Just ...

Sodium Percarbonate

Sodium Percobonate is the active ingredient in el cheapo home brand nappy cleaner. I've been using this for 14 years; when i suggested it on that other HB website they got a bit sarcastic about it.

I'm trying (unsuccessfully) not to gloat.

Leaking Fermenters

We seem to be hearing a lot about no airlock action due to leaks, and I'm getting a bit tired of hearing that

"it doesn't matter"

are we all being a bit too understanding of poor manufacturing standards that leave sharp moulding-flash edges across the top lip ?

Carb drops

Has anyone else had a bag of Carbonation Drops from a well-known HB supplier with inconsistent sizes ? A lot of very small drops; like down to about half size. at two per bottle in 750s it probably doesn't matter overall; but i expect to see a few semi-flat stubbies out of this batch.

BITTER BREWS

A long & complicated question; bear with me.

I'm generally aiming for mid to lower alcohol levels as I figure that way I can drink more of it, so I look for interesting fermenatbles ( like liquid malts for flavour but keep the quantities down to half or two thirds or so.

I guess a full strength ...

wheat Beer

A good wheat beer has a faint suggestion of cat's piss in the background.

You stick the slice of lemon down the neck of the stubbie to counter-act this.

Cascade kits

None of the cascade kits could live up to the stories on the cans, but I got a good result from Golden Harvest lager Last summer.

Ignore the skunky smell as you bottle.

Leave bottles in the dark a Minimum of 10 weeks

The bitterness of this nice clean lager would definitely not be to everyones ...

Skunky lagers

Never mind the fermentables; plain white sugar works OK, but you blokes are all drinking these HB Lagers far too green. A minimum of 10 weeks in the bottle will settle all these "off" tastes and odours. You just have to own enough bottles made out of real brown glass.

Ask a silly question.....

Can anyone tell me what "DRAUGHT" means now? I'm old enough to remember when it meant bulk beer on tap; it obviously means something different now.
