Re: Think i screwed up rehydrating dry yeast

haha yeah i was quick off the mark but that same intuition that told me not to mess with the yeast told me it wasn't working. I checked it this morning and nothing at all. So i got a packet of yeast and sprinkled it on the top. It looks now like something is starting to happen (after 9 hours). Does ...

Think i screwed up rehydrating dry yeast

I did a Siera Nevada earlier today. I thought i'd have a go an rehydrating the yeast even though my intuition told me not to as i'm sure if i'd just sprinkled it in it would have worked, regardless of all the science. But i boiled up some water and used it when it had cooled. Plus i cooled it ...

Not drunk on Ales?

Interesting. I am starting to see the beer fridge as falling off the fence - to the expensive side! Or maybe it's the move to AG. I think I'll do both after summer.

Here's a weird side topic - one that i'm too embarrassed to make a title out of: do you get drunk on ales? Sounds bloody weird hey ...

How much are you willing to spend per longneck?

My second brew was a Deliverance ale partial extract (abt $32) and with filtered water ( abt $20) it cost about $52 (not exact). So at 28 bottles it cost me about a $1.80 per bottle. The result was great and above my expectations. I have started looking at brewing lager since summer is coming up and ...

Re: As much info as possilbe wanted on doing a corona rip off

drsmurto, StuTee nailed my thoughts. Haven't got a problem with you comparing it to another lager but how many times are you sending a Corona back for a water? That's 15 years in some countries.

Re: As much info as possilbe wanted on doing a corona rip off

ah ok sounds good. I did a straight coopers lager from the kit and can't say that was toooo great, it had that really honey this is a home brew flavour to it (before ageing tho). Maybe the Mexican one is different though. Do you think it's worth buying a second fermenter and racking it? I'd like to ...

As much info as possilbe wanted on doing a corona rip off

I'm going to do a partial extract. I've seen a Mexican Cerveza style extract at TWOC for about $14. Thinking of using that with one of their brew pacs as my Irish Ale (Deliverance) turned out well at first taste- after only 2 weeks secondary fermentation.

Wanting to know as much as possible about ...

What size pots to buy for AG?

I have done 2 extract 23 litre brews so far. Am figuring i'd be happy to keep it at this even when i get to kegging (19 in the keg and bottle a couple). Is this also a standard output for AG? Do outputs increment in standard numbers? Or can you pick a number out of the air and go i'll make this much ...

Re: Could you bottle from a keg, to give to someone?

i checked out the carbonation cap which is a cool idea but i was thinking of just putting a normal cap on it if i get into kegging (gorrd it's inevitable i know it) and giving it to someone or maybe just bottling a couple for myself to see how it aged. I can understand i'd have to be careful pouring ...

Looking for reassurance on esky for mash tun

I'm assuming a big stainless steal pot is the best, but then the most expense, option. So i understand an esky for cost. But I would have thought plastic wouldn't cut it. Do you have to make sure you get a brand newy with no scratches? Otherwise it would be hard to clean hey. And do people generally ...

Could you bottle from a keg, to give to someone?

Instinct is telling me no, but i can't think why. The beer is carbonated and the capped bottle locks out the oxygen that would otherwise make it go stale?? So i'm thinking the bottle should last as though it had been primed?

Re: Cost to move up from Partial Extract to Full Grain?

nah the partial brew i did was in a pressure cooker, so enough for my little pac of grain but not enough for the full 23 litres, right? (i poured the grain soaked liquid into my 23L fermenter)

Cost to move up from Partial Extract to Full Grain?

I realise this is not an original question but hey.

I've done two brews, first full extract then partial. I've looked into all grain but i'm put off by the gear needed.I'm interested to see how cheaply i could enter into it??

Cheers.

Questions on cleaning bottles

Hey all,

I bottled my first brew in the supplied PET bottles. My second brew is fermenting. I've colllected almost 30 long knecks and i'm thinking about how i'm going to clean them before bottling (an Irish Ale).

I'm thinking about filling the bath with hot water and letting all of them soak in ...

Some newb questions...

Hey all,

I just got a Cooper's Micro-brew Kit and am 2 days into fermentation. So far so good (thanks to this forum as no bubbles!)

1. Is there a best home brew book that people recommend?

2. Cooper's say ferment at 21-27C for their Lager can. I have been keeping it at 22C. I've read that people ...
