Clearly the service hasn't changed one iota since we were there three years ago. Fancy not doing tasting paddles on "busy days". Ever heard of putting on more staff?
On a happier note, I'm currently at the
Royal Standard Hotel drinking a Southern Bay "Ocean Ale". It's
described on the Southern Bay website as "A unique combination of NZ and US hops provide fruity aromatics with zingy grapefruit notes, which give way to a cleansing wave of bitterness."
Agreed. However, the entire spiel is a bit of a wank:
In this bottle, we’ve captured the essence of our Great Southern Land, bordered by the Southern Ocean. This micro-brewed pale ale’s warm malt character is shaped by the vastness of the open sea. Local, UK and German specialty malts are at its heart. A unique combination of NZ and US hops provide fruity aromatics with zingy grapefruit notes, which give way to a cleansing wave of bitterness.
Sea-born. Sensual. Sensational.
Nice beer though.
