Wimmig, I don't suppose there is any chance you could a/ get a load of your colleagues in other stores to join up here & post similar tipoffs, or b/ download a national list of specials Australia-wide?
Salut!

I like that idea. And if anyone knows anyone who works in any other bottle shops, get them to leave tip-offs here.

Cheers,

I bought a sixer today to try it out. Bloody awful, tastes as bad if not worse than modern VB. The remaining 5 bottles have become the megaswill visitor beer.

I agree with triumph on this one.

I had it a few weeks ago, and didn't mind it at all. Mind you, this was at the end of a boozey lunch where I had been drinking Stella's all day.

I might have to try it again, on an empty palate :)

i finally got hold of a six-pack at safeway this week. Dare i say it, it's nice. Can't stomach the mass produced stuff anymore - it used to be a staple, as was Melbourne Bitter.
I'd go back for the original ale

It's down to $13.99 a six pack at my local Vintage Cellars (in Balaclava), and they have a LOT of it. May have to take a gamble on it.

And another thing with the original VB, it comes in heavyish 375ml Crown seal bottles, which are better than the ones I get from the HBS. Stack this up with the fact that no bastard seems to buy it, which leads to its corresponding low price, and it is all good from where I sit! I bought another half a D today and it is growing on me. All my mates agree that it is at the very least worth a go, and its all aussie. Goes allright...

Just sampling now.

Well, I'm glad it comes in a good bottle.

Cheers,

My local (independent) beerporium (not Safeway) has it for $12.99 a six-pack. The owner said the mark-up on the Original was that high that he was more than happy for Safeway to advertise it and for him to sell it to all the Safeway customers.
Not bad for a cheap (~$36 a slab) ale, though.
He gets Little Creatures in in a week or so. Woot!

I had a few the other night at a mate's place. I didn't think it was too bad. I probably wouldn't buy it, but it was OK.

I did drink it from the stubby, though, which may have masked some of the "taste".

What a waste.... i don't mind it. But even when I don't like a beer, I will drink rather than toss it.

Shame, shame, shame....

Seems split 50/50 on likes and dislikes. I got a 6pack tonight and thought it was ok myself.
