Hi
I haven't been on for a while, so I didn't see your post sooner, but I would recommend reducing the honey further, say, 250g at most.
cheer,
Tom
p.s. Even the wife likes it!
Karmeliet Triple
G'day drtom and Gentlemen,
I know this one is old, but while I sit here "sipping" this brew, I had to comment as Tripel lovers would love to know.
I did a Tripel by Brewferm and at the start it tasted a bit sus. I used the standard yeast as I wanted to test the kit, plus the candy sugar mentioned on the can. I did not do any FG SG readings.....
I have left them for a couple of months and I have had a few sitting in my fridge to see if this would alter taste.
After 1 month in the fridge, yes they lasted that long
, the taste improved by over 200%.
I would recommend the kit.
Mind you, I know they are strong as after 6 stubbies, I struggled to talk
. They hit you like a sledgie.
Cheers
Boonie

If you dropped this down to 250g honey, what kind of alcohol content would you expect? In the 7-7.5% range?rwh wrote:I think I'm going to try a modified version of your recipe:
1.7kg tin Black Rock Whispering Wheat
1kg tin Black Rock liquid Light Malt Extract
1kg deep red candi sugar (homemade)
500g Yellow Box honey
250g crystal malt
T58 belgian ale yeast pitched @ 30C
Made up to 23L
OG should then be 1.071, FG 1.012, Alchohol 8.4%
A little more in-style, perhaps?
I think I'll probably add some finishing hops as well, in the last few minutes of the boil. 15g Cascade for 15 minutes, 20g Saaz for 1 minute or something.
If you wanted to drop this back into the low 6%'s what would you sacrifice?
Jesus is coming - look busy
Maybe cut the Candi Sugar & Honey in half.Danzar wrote:If you dropped this down to 250g honey, what kind of alcohol content would you expect? In the 7-7.5% range?rwh wrote:I think I'm going to try a modified version of your recipe:

I agree Boonie. I didn't fancy mine at all when it was young. http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/forum/vi ... php?t=3048Boonie wrote:I did a Tripel by Brewferm and at the start it tasted a bit sus. I still have a few bottles left which I should make an effort to get around to tasting

Thanks chris., thought it may have been the fridge that did it, but it appears time is the common denominator.chris. wrote:I agree Boonie. I will do this one again....now that they have turned out OK. Might even add a bit more yeast this time to see if it cooks better, as some posts have mentioned previously.ie High SG
