Lowenbrau

Post by silkworm »

Does anyone have a recipe for Lowenbrau?
I guess a good quality pilsner kit would be a start but suggestions of yeast and hops addatives?
Even a full mash if any one knows. I would like to do one soon...

Lowenbrau.... two dots above the o and a.

http://www.grumpys.com.au/r1.php3?recipeid=10

Is the only place i could find. i have seen a recipe in a book for it, but can't remember the name of it, so not much use there

But yes...Lowenbrau (pretty sure it's pronounced LoovenBroy) the w being a v sound in german in case you were wondering

Please let me know how this turns out, as im a big fan of it :) :) in fact over the weekend i had a 6 pack out of my 1 litre mug (massKruge) :)

i recommend getting one of the mugs as they make it so much more enjoyable.
i bought mine from the Lowenbrau Keller in Sydney. They posted one up to me, pretty damn cheap for the quality. Paid $16 for each one plus postage

http://www.lowenbrau.com.au
Find an email there and ask them.

Brewcraft suggest the following K & K:

Black Rock Export Pilsner
1.5kg light liquid malt
25g Hallertau & 15g Saaz hop pellets
Saflager W34/70 yeast. Brew to 21 litres.

Simmer malt and Hallertau hops fin 2 litres water for 15 minutes. Add Saaz and increase het to boil for the last minute. Rest 15 minutes then strain. Continue as normal.

This is a receipe for Hacker-Pschorr Hell(light in colour) which most munichers will prefer over Loewenbraeu. Very similar though and the same style in beer (Helles)

OG 1046

ingredients for 23L

Lager Malt(Pilsen) 4,700 gm

Temperature stepped infusion or single decoction mash.
Mash schedule
50C-30min
66C-60min

90min boil
Start of Boil
Hallertau 7.5%AA 10gm
Tettnang 5%AA 30gm

Apprx 4.8% alco/Vol
Biterness 20 IBU

I would use bavarian or Munich liquid yeast but Saflager would be good too. Ferment 9-12C.
Racking Gravity 1010

Lager for one month at 2C

Or if you must have the Loewenbraeu brand then try this one.

Loewenbraeu Special Export

23L

OG 1052

Pale malt 5,060 gm
Carapils 265 gm

Temp stepped infusion or double decoction
50C-30mins
62C-40mins
72C-40mins

Boil 90mins
start of boil
Northern brewer 7.6%AA 10gm
Hallertau 7.5%AA 15gm
Tettnang 5%AA 15gm

Same yeasts and ferment temps as above
Racking Gravity 1012

5.4% Alco/Vol
Bitterness 24 IBU

Lager for 5 weeks at 2C

OR malt extract brewers replace the pale malt with 3,900 gm of liquid pale malt extract and follow the rest of the receipe.
Sounds like Beer O'clock.

Hate to bring up an old thread but am keen to make one of these.
I have a recipe from the Brewcraft leaflet but not sure if i should do grumpys or the Brewcraft one which is -

Beermakers Lager (including dry enzyme)
1kg Light Dry malt
300g Carapils malted grain (crushed)
5g Northern Brewer, 10g Hallertau & 10g Tettnanger hops
Saflager W34/70 yeast. Final volume 21 litres
Bring 2 litres of water to the boil, add Carapils malt, reduce heat
& simmer for 20 minutes. Add the hops & dry malt & increase
heat to boil for the last minute. Rest for 15 minutes then strain.

Have been mainly doing kits so this might be a good opportunity to branch out, any thoughts?

Another wow!!

Tasting my kit Lowenbrau right now and am surprised how close to the real thing this is.

Bloody fantastic!!!!

Grains really do add a whole new dimension, even if they are just carapils!!!

So the correct spelling is Löwenbräu ?

To insert the German letters, instead of typing an o or a, hold down the Alt key while you type 0246 and then let the Alt key go and you will have the ö, and Alt 0228 will give you ä.
Cheers.

My wife calls me a pedantic bastard, but they're not dots, they are called an "umlaut". By the way, my wife is always right. She also doesn't drink, which means more for me..... lol
