Gday all
I've got a mate that doesn't have access to the net and he has a prob with his Newc Brown brew.
It's been in the fermenter for about 7 days and whilst he has seen some action going on there hasn't been any real bubbling in the airlock. Whilst the water levels were uneven they have come back to being level in the airlock and he's now wondering if it is done fermenting or if because it's newc brown that it doesn't have a lot of activity anyway. He has broken his hydrometer and can't do a measure so any feedback other than that as a solution would be much appreciated.
i think if he has seen action that it's just that he has an air leak somewhere else and that it has probably fermented ok anyway. What does everyone else think??
Cheers

when talking to a fool, make sure they aren't doing the same
Re: Newcastle Brown question
I agree with the air leak theory. To test for an air leak push lightly on the fermentor lid to "unbalance" the water and see if it levels itself. If it stays unbalanced then you are probably OK. If it doesn't then try a little petrolium jelly around the top of the fermentor before you put the lid on or use glad wrap.andyzed wrote:i think if he has seen action that it's just that he has an air leak somewhere else and that it has probably fermented ok anyway. Agree air leak, squeeze the keg, levels out=leak.
What do I think??, I think your mates not having a good run, no net, no hydrometer and beer keg not sealing.
Tell him to buy another hydrometer, it's the safest way to avoid Beer Bombs.
Cheers

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.
