This for anyone thinking of buying one of the shelving units from supercheap dont! the one i had just bloody colapsed lost around 40 beers
got off pretty lightly considering I had around 270 on it still pissed off but
1 gallon of beer weighs about 10 lbs, a batch of beer weighs 50 lbs, 6.75 batches weighs 337.5 lbs give or take.
Even if I stood on it it wouldn't have been an indicator for 270 brews.

4 litres to a gallon give or take, 2.2 lbs to a kilo, wait until I measure speed in furlongs per fortnight

There you go, I was thinking they were all on the same shelf
That would about a batch and a half so 85 lbs talking in glassware or 38 kilos or so
Take them back

Pre-empting Dogger, there are 52 gallons in a hogshead. Dogger would probably have got it wrong anyway, as I think they are imperial, not US, gallons.
Of course, the much more interesting measure for beer is the firkin (9 gallons) :-)As in, "Anyone got a firkin (of) beer?"
Peter was close enough but here you go anyway, a hogshead equates to
.5 Butts
8.4219 cu ft
14553 cu in
.238 cu metres
52.458 Imp Gallons
63 Gallons US
63 Gallons (wine)
238.47 Litres
by the way there is 220 L in a Homer just in case anyone cares

Merriam Webster gives the following definition of a homer:
Main Entry: ho·mer
Pronunciation: \ˈhÅ-mÉ™r\
Function: noun
Etymology: Hebrew ḥÅmer
: an ancient Hebrew unit of capacity equal to about 10 1/2 or later 11 1/2 bushels or 100 gallons (378 liters)
I have a little book called Pocket Ref and it has conversions for just about everything. It says 220 L for a Homer however, I can't confirm it so 378 is cool to.
I am impressed you took the time to look it up, most mortals don't even listen to me.
Jay,
we are always serious here chum, nothing is to small to be considered frivolus, I am sure we can even find numbers on how gravity affects air pressure and hence the boiling point of the wort.
See how it all comes around?
