Montieths Original Ale

Post by thisispants »

Anyone had this beer?? It's an absolute corker....

and if so...anyone know how to make something similar to it?

It's a new zealand ale.

Forget Origional Ale - the real showstoppers are Summer Ale, or The Raddler. These are 2 really origional brews I'm trying to work on.

As for the origional - you'de probably start with a Black Rock - and perhaps go with some of the local hops (green bullit?)

As for Summer Ale, try a pale ale, 1kg fermentables, and a 1/4 a tin of Coopers ginger beer. It's the bizzo.

I've had them all, and you're right...the summer ale is damn good! The radler on the other hand....shite. Probably the only beer they make that I wouldn't drink.

Thanks for the summer ale idea though. Have you done it?

Can you get most hops in tea bag format?

Teabags are near useless in my opinion. There is never enough hops in them! Your better off with ANY other lot of hops if you can get them.

I've heard of the teabags, but not tried them. I've tried the Saaz, but it was loose. It worked relly well, and I havn't noticed any hops in the bottles - I used safflager yeast thou, and that helps glue the hops into the fermenter not the bottle.

My brother put me onto the summer ale idea- he and several of his mates reaconed the Pale Ale + 1/4 Ginger Beer was even better than the Montheths one!!

I'm putting one down next - at the moment I'm doing a wheat, with orange and corriander, and the one going down today is a lager with orange and cardamon. Both I'm hoping to be good!

Tried the Original Ale at a Montieths Craft Beer bar in Tukapana when I was in Auckland 2 months ago. Really enjoyed it, wasn't to carbonated which I liked, gulp it down nice and quick.
