Thermostats for Homebrew - 0 - 30c (32 - 86f)

Post by Bill100727 »

Hi you lot,
As this is my first post, I would like to bring up for discussion the theme, is there an argument for temperature control in the homebrewers scheme of things, my own view on the argument, some years ago when I bottled (Now 50ltr kegs), I used a double 23ltr (5 gal) temperature control cabinet, fitted with a 60 watt globe and a 0 - 30c (32 - 86f) thermostat, set at about 25c. I found that, if I returned the filled bottles to the cabinet for 5 days at the same setting, the beer was clear, brilliant and drinkable, only just, but never the less drinkable, of course wait a while before you invite your pisspot friends around..!
I acquired at one time about 30 of these excellent, compact French made Thermostats and made a couple of cabinets, but as I did not advertise and there did not seem to be a call for them, that project got shelved.
I recently put a thermostat up on eBay, got quite a shock when it brought 35 bucks. At my time of life, I don't require a million anymore and I certainly wont be taking it with me..! So I thought, lets share the wealth with the fraternity, at 25 bucks a pop and $3.85 postage anywhere in Oz, be my guest.

Looks a bit dusty, I'll have to get the old elbow grease out..!

Good onya Bill, I liked ya pork pie.

Mate a bit more detail on the thermostat pls but really if they are just a mechanical heat job then even at half the price of a fridgemate they're past they're use by.

Cheers, Geoff

Hi Geoff,
When I can find out how this image thing works I will stick a pic' of it on here. It is just a small bimetal thingy, with the two wiring connectors and a knob to set the darn thing,
Cheers,
Bill.

Well done Bill.

I esp take my hat off to you as your the same age as my old man and my wife is an aged care nurse RN. If the only help you need is on the computer then that's bloody marvelous :)

Now where's the rest of that pork pie story?

Cheers, Geoff.

Thanks for the compliment Geoff, a pat on the back never goes astray, I guess that is the same for everybody. I wouldn't say that this box of tricks is all I need, but you come pretty close.
I think most people don't understand that the computer is the greatest invention ever in all of mankinds achievements.
Me pork pie saga, yes, will have to get back onto that one soon, be patient. In the meantime here's something to inspire you, little effort from the baby of the family, Stewart,
