i was thinking about 2 to 3 ltrs as i could just scale down a heap of things.. try it and if i like it go full scale. if i hate it pour it down the drain and not waste to much money

has anyone made a small fermenter?
Im looking to try and make something only a couple Ltrs in size just so i can try a few different recipes till i find something i like.
has anyone tried this before? as i cant find anything small enough to buy

Strawberry and Lime Cider
Has anyone tried it? Anyone have a recipe?
Was thinking about getting a bunch of strawberries and boiling them in water then straining. or would i be better off with some sort of concentrate?
Lime flavour i was thinking out of a squeeze bottle lime juice?
Couple it with some champagne yeast ...

About to make my second cider
Will be looking at a sweeter cider this time so a heap more lactose... anyway
Im also looking at a more bubbly champine type of cider.
My questions are
1. could i use a champain yeast to give it more of a champain feel? Would using this make any differance over say ...

this is what im running with
After the boil is done into the fermenter, add the rest of your LME and the Dex
cool and pitch US-05
Be sure to use a hose to transfer while hot, do not introduce oxygen Hey!
Best to cool before transfer if you can!

Ha ha. I see your'e cruising 2 forums at once like me. Looks like you've got it pretty sorted on the other but for completeness here I'll put an answer anyway.
Definately replicate the 5L of water and 1/3 can malt like the original recipe other wise you will end up with a brew which is a lot more ...

how else? lol *cough cough* stupid me was going to do it in 3 seperate pans with around 1-5 to 2 lrts of water in each... then boil seperate for 30 mins, 20 mins etc then tip all the pots into the fermenterAnna wrote:I'm curious - how else would you do it?

Hey all
Making a brew tonight.
Anyway the recipe calls for the following -
20g Centennial boiled for 30 min
40g Amarillo boiled for 20 min
40g Amarillo boiled for 10 min
Can i do it this way instead.
boil up a big pot of 5ltrs of water add the Centennial then 10 mins later the Amarillo then ...

so almost like dry hopping, kinda of. Just heating it for a few mins rather then boiling for a set time etc

What does flame out mean??
Iget the example below
20g Centennial @ 30 min
40g Amarillo @ 20 min
40g Amarillo @ 10 min
boil the hops for 30 mins
then another lot for 20 mins
then another lot for 10 mins
Then add to the fermentor....
But what does flame out mean???

well i can tell u i used the blackrock kit and added juice etc etc.
fermented for two weeks.
Bottled and oipened one on the weekend after only 3 weeks. And it was pretty good!
And i think itll be better in bottle for a month or so etc
was happy with it!
