Mr da_done_damage, if you are using that yeast, fuggles hops. If you want to make it with the cascade, try with US-56 American Ale yeast. Either will make a nice beer, I am thinking.

I am thinking that the Saunders Malt Extract is not brewing malt. If it is in the baking section, you have bought bakers malt extract which is not being made with fermentability foremost in the mind. What gravity was it that your beer started and then finished at?

Sounds valid. The sediment is ...

It takes about 10 minutes for me to wash half a dozen glasses. But I am very fortunate as I have both hot and cold running water in my kitchen.

It is of course not necessary to do this every wash. Just perhaps once every month I am doing all of my glasses.

I am surprised to read that none of you is using the greatest method for glass cleaning. Removes all grease build up, which is the main cause of headless beers, then is neutralised and restored odourless.

Step 1: Rinse clean glass with hot water until nothing is visible.
Step 2: Fill glass with hot ...

Thats over 2 kilo of malt. The beer may turn out a tad sweet. You might want to use some bittering hops aswell as your flavouring.

That kit is being very heavily bittered. It is bittered to brew a 1.050+ beer. It is needing the malt. Of those hops I would use Fuggles or Hallertau. Either would be ...

Oscar, what temperature are you fermenting at? Even a Coopers kit yeast will make better beer at 20 degrees.

A question out of ignorance...
If the kit makers (brew companies) have access to good ingredients and good techniques, why would doing the same thing at home be better? Is it all in the fact that the Kits need to be dehydrated at the factory, and this lessens the end product?
Just wondering as I ...

California Common or "Steam Beer" is all about the Northern Brewer hop. Right the way thru, from bitterring to aroma. Think of it as a showcase for the alround woody bittering flavour aroma hop. Yeast at warm lager (15°C) or cool ale (18°C) is also necessary. Wonderful style it is being, indeed!

The yeasts require excellent aeration, sufficient nutrients, either from the malt or as a supplement and the correct ...
