Brewing in a Fridge

Hi
I have an old fridge that fits my fermenter and want to know if there are any issues related to brewing in this way.

I know there is a post only a few spots down regarding this topic, but I wanted to start a fresh one.

I have put it to the highest temp which is about 15 degrees and should be ...

yeah, you could be right there grabbie

I guess I'm too sceptical and pessimistic
but I think I'll have to start visiting more microbreweries to get that authentic special beer flavour and / or improve the quality of my homebrew

Oliver

I think what will happen is if the takeover goes through the main benficiaries of the deal will be the executives of Lion Nathan
(not the shareholders of that company).

It would be a real, real shame if it happens and the quality of Coopers beers declines due to cost cutting measures. As ...

Yes - I'm not sure
but at least one positive thing I have noticed in melbourne lately is the growing popularity of the coopers brand in bars and bottle shops that have never stocked it before

I tried the St George on Friday night at a pub cause a mate bought one in his shout.

It was so bad that I could not finish it. Probably the first time for me that I could not get through a whole stubby of a bad beer.

This is yet another example of lots of money spent marketing a product, rather ...

Why do you use the plastic for your primary fermentation?
I would have thought it would be better for that to be in the glass?

Ideally, would you use two glass fermenters?

thought so - and with so many other smaller breweries (than CUB) around doing interesting beers, there is no reason to go for mass produced cub stuff

and I probably wouldn't bother even if I did - don't trust 'em to produce anything decent

undercover
I have used those caps from Australian Winemakers (in nth melb) and not had that problem

But I have had a huge problem with priming using dex, with way to much foam happening - an my las few brews have been under carbonated as a result

I did a coopers lager that smelt like that just a few weeks ago

Old Hops

Found some old packets of finishing hops in my cupboard that I must have bought over a year ago.

The are still in the sealed foil bags - but there is no use by date that I can see.

Do you think they would still be ok to use?

before I started homebrewing and before I was introduced to Coopers beers I usually drank VB and most other Carlton United crap - I knew in the back of my mind that it wasn't great beer, but thought that it was ok

but now that I know more about beer, I only drink my own, or coopers, or the odd ...

That's interesting because last weekend I kicked off the following:

Coopers Original Recipe Lager kit
50/50 malt/dextrose mix
500 ml honey
1 sachet of Saflager yeast (rehydrated in a small bowl of tepid water with a teaspoon of sugar dissolved in the water)

Pitched it into the wort when the temp ...

Lager & Hops

So what hops would you recommend to use when making a Lager?

I am going to do a Coopers Bavarian lager soon and want to add some hops - more for aroma and flavour, rather than for bitterness

Also - does adding honey to a larger work, or does honey only go well with ales?

Cheers

yeah - and I hate how sometimes, when a badly poured pint spills over the glass and then they hose the outside of the glass with water, just so you dont get beer on your hands and think they are being polite, when they shouldn't have stuffed it up in the first place

but I have another question
I ...

the initial gravity was 1050 and it has been at 1010 for the last few days
racked it into secondary last night and had a few good mouthfuls
