I have found that you can actually see when the fermentation stops.
Its starts to go clear. I then take some readings just to be sure but so far it's always been finished when its looked finished.

I don't float the hyrdrometer in the fermenter.

I have never had an infection through the pin hole ...

Or just toss the airlock and lid and stick some glad wrap over the top.
Couple of rubber bands to seal, pinhole to let out the CO2 and your laughing. Also lets you see the fementing process.

Everyone's opinion depends on the angle they are coming from.

For me I like tradition, but I know change is inevitable.

Personally I would like to become a part owner in Coopers and share the profits and have a say in it's future.
Can't do that at the moment.
The Coopers family want the support ...

Beer Gut

OK I am getting right into this home brew lark now, and really enjoying myself.
I am averaging probably 2 x 740ml bottles a night and have noticed that I am starting to have to loosen my belt a notch a two.
Anyone else having this problem?
Anyone found a balance between home brew and staying thin ...

I have one going at the moment it's a Coopers can - can't say that I can taste the artificial sweetner - but that could be because current alc % is 6.7% and it's still fermenting

Bulk priming ginger beer

Hi all,
Can anyone offer any suggestions for how much dextrose to use to bulk prime 18 litres of ginger beer?
I was thinking 180g but will that be too much for 18 litres?
Cheers,
Grabbie

Forgot to log in sorry.
I have stuck a couple in a warmer place and a couple I have added some carbonation drops to.
So will see if any make a difference.
It tastes good though.

Cider

Hi everyone,
I know cider takes longer to ferment, does that mean it needs longer in the bottle to carbonate as well? Or should two weeks be enough?
Cheers,
Grabbie

Hi all,
I have a black rock cider that has been fermenting for 2.5 weeks.
It is Oliver recipe but I have made 23 litres instead of 18 (Mean't to stop at 18 when filling but was distracted).
Apart from the fact it will now probably be less alcohol% and more watered down, I want to bulk prime it and ...

We are just not good enough.
I am tired of the excuses ( Well we are playing Argentina/Brazil/Germany etc) they were pushing that line in the eighties.
We have players all over the world stage now.
We need a change of attitude - we need to stop giving these sides too much respect.
Maybe we should ...

Also, Nanna Gail, a standard Texta will mark a plain gold cap however you wish. My brews usually have a two or three letter code on each bottle, which is removed once the labels go on.

LOL - only a man would think of that -
