Thanks Wassa.
Yeah, I am just looking for a subtle kind of warm after taste so will go with 6. Will also de-seed them ( after removing my contact lenses........I`ve made that mistake once before....)
Will be brewing this in Perth so I`ll wait until the temps drop a bit; hopefully brew Apr start ...

Chilli Chocolate Porter Beer
I am on holiday in Tokyo and just drank a nice Kirin Chocolate Beer. It got me thinking; has anyone tried/got suggestions re trying to brew a chocolate chilli beer?
I`ve done a search and I`m thinking of basing it on wassa`s popular recipe using the Cascade Porter with honey dark malt etc.

clear bottles!!
Why do they bottle Corona in clear bottles if it is the least effective for keeping beer in? Is it some kind of warped Mexican humour? Or a ploy that if it doesn't taste good, the drinker may blame the use of clear glass, ditch the rest, an buy a 'fresh' new 6-pack/carton of Corona and try again ...

Hi Chris
Sorry if the question offends you (humbly offers you a possibly infected wheat beer through cyberspace to apologise :? )

Re: The Full Bottle on Sterilisation please
Thanks for that info.
I'm not convinved that the bottles have acetobacter in them but I'll use the bleach as you suggested as a precaution.
Some yrs ago I used to use sodium metabisuplhate but I got the impression that the sodium perc. was safer. But i guess they're both for sanitisation only ...

Thanks.
Yes, I have used sanitizer (sodium perc.) in addition to boiling water for sanitisation. More interested in sterilisation than sanitisation for just these bottles (which may have had an acetobacter infection in them).

The Full Bottle on Sterilisation please
In 'Pain in the Glass' thread it appears that I have acetobacter infection, probably in the bottles.
I have been emptying the bottles of this brew quite regularly in the last few days ( :P ) and after rinsing thoroughly filling them to the brim with boiling water, leaving overnight, then emptying ...

Re: Pain in the Glass
The only bottle washer I have is myself, a steady hand and a kettle )or pyrex jug if using sanitiser).
Excuse my ignorance but what is a bottle washer? (I have a wife but I don't think that is what you mean................)

Re: Pain in the Glass
Thanks Chris.
I always use the sodium perc. mixed with warm water, nor boiling. Then, after rinsing, I'll use boiling water. That is what I just used (boiling water) to bottle 60 stubbies of a Kirin clone on Sunday and hopefully they'll stay 'slime free'.
I'll check for the one-shot with that ...

Re: Pain in the Glass
Thanks for the replies Chris and Kevnlis.
I'll use boiling water from now on, or the one-shot. Is one-shot easy to get at hb shops or does it go under any other name?
Hopefully all the oxygen is used up in the bottles and it won't get any worse but I'll keep trying to drink more (good excuse) as ...

Re: Pain in the Glass
Re the caps, that also confuses me.
I used new homebrand crown seals soaked in boiling water before I started bottling. Plastic PET caps were rinsed in sodium percarbonate. The bag the seals came in said to soak them in boiling water which is what I always do and had no probs before this.

Re: Pain in the Glass
Yeah, definitely a film. Minimal, but there. Disappeared when poured into the glass but I guess it just got absorbed into the beer as I poured.
Primed with normal household sugar but brewed with BE1.

Pain in the Glass
I bottled a wheat beer 2 weeks ago (basic kit, hop teabag, wheat beer yeast, dex/maltodetrin)
Now I notice every stubbie has a ring around the top and a film over that. I've searched here and guess it is acetobacter or lactose bacter. I opened one and it tasted OK (but obviously very young). Here's ...

doesn't specify which hops, just the old 'local and imported ingredients'; very helpful!

worth chucking it in........?
It may be home brewer suicide to use a Brigalow product, but I picked up one of their 'Finishing Hops Tablet' today with the intention of chucking half into each of a couple of brews I'm about to do (details below). Sounds like the best thing since sliced bread ("it infuses the beer with fresh hop ...
