thnx Oliver,
500g of the muscovado seems to be just right. Not too sweet. But overall a very nice dark / heavy brew.

cheers
Ian

Oliver,
You recommended using 500g of dark brown sugar not 1kg in Geoff's. Did he update the recipe on the site? Or did you mean 500g of DME instead of 1kg?

Ian,

I ...

I added 25g fuggles. Boiled in about 100g dark malt for 15mins, then added to the main mix for the rest of the boil, as it turned out about 45mins.

thnx mate ... added and boiled for another 1/2 hour. Making another dragon stout. This time added fuggles hops, last time didn't, and nothing wrong with it. Just interested to taste the difference.

Either 1 or 2. Depends on what how much of a start the yeast need. It won't hurt to use more than 1.

One question ... when's the best time to add the nutrient to the wort? during the boil, after it's cooled ...

hey Chris,

do you use just the one packet of yeast for this? I've got a few built up, but haven't yet created the nutrient.

cheers
Ian

I just do it in a jug, with some gladwrap over the top. Don't overdo the amount of water you put in to re-hydrate, just use 50-100ml. Put as much boiling ...

Re: Cheap-ish kits

Just went to Bi-Lo in Karingal/Frankston North (Victoria), and they've got all the standard Coopers kits and the Wander for $8.60-$8.80. Not super cheap, but a couple of bucks off. Don't know if it's all Bi-Lo's, or how long it lasts.

I'm making up a dragon stout now (Geoff's). Wondering if anyone here has made it (or similar) and did you use / not use hops. The recipe doesn't call for hops.

Just interested if anyone's been able to compare with/without on this one?

I recall reading (I think on the Coopers Forum) that the yeast was the same for Pale, Sparkling, Vintage & Stout Ales. The also suggested using Pale for cultures as the lower Alc will give you more viable yeasties.

Cheers,
Greg

if you're still out there, I'd like some feedback on the stout. I'm about to make the Enter Dragon myself, ... will put the starter on today.

I managed to find Muscavado in one of those alternative food stores that had heaps of different stuff. Bought 2 x 500g packs. Gotta slightly ...
