Fruit Beer

At the bottlo the the other day I discovered a beer from Belgium called Floris "Ninkeberry" (I kid you not) which had drawing of some fruit on the label one of which was a passionfruit. It described itself on the back as a fruitbeer based on a wheatbeer.
Naturally I had to give it a go and ripped ...

I put down my lemon brew yesterday using a recipe that was a mixture of Chris' and other bits of info I found:

24 lemons (which came to about 2.6kg)
2kg Sucrose
750gm Lactose
Lalvin EC-1118 (selected in the Champagne region...sounded good)
Topped up to 22L
O.G. 1.058

Give the lemons a quick rinse ...

Thanks for the info Jim that looks like an interesting system. How easy is it to store the bottles. Can four (which would cover a 23L brew) fit in your fridge? Also is the blue colour meant to have any light protecting qualities or should you keep them (like us voters) in the dark?

Cheers

I got a cheap hose attachment from the Bunnings that has a "jet" selection (1 of 5) that does the job. Not as flash or as quick as Yardy's though.

I just found a bottle from a batch I bottled in Jan that I called the Mongrel. It was my first attempt at my own recipe and just to be daring I used the much maligned Pride of Ringwood hops. After three months in the bottle it was definitely the best beer I have tasted made by me. It just makes me ...

Thanks for your replies guys. I was more trying to get the math on the pressure of a full bottle of beer - just for the sake of discussion. I agree about hyrdo's but I think the '2 consecutive readings over 2 days' needs to qualified with the fact you need that reading to be in the vicinity of where ...

pressure rating for tallboys?

I was about to bottle a brew that had been sitting around for awhile (which I thought must have been ready) but I when a read the SG it was a little high. It got me wondering: some people bottle by time or by other signs than a hydrometer - is there way to work out how much pressure an un-fully ...

Amen. I have had a brew sitting in the 2nd fermenter for over two weeks and I still think it's not quite there. I was all set to bottle about a week ago but when I took a reading it was 1.016. The cooler days we have been having had taken their toll. Perhaps a salutory warning to people to check the ...

Cascade Blonde

I don't know if I'm going over old ground but has anyone tried Cascade Blonde? How long has it been out? I have had a few on a couple of occasions over the last few weeks and I reckon it's a bit of alright. Is it an ale or a lager? I don't remember them saying much about it on the bottle.

I have a foot in each camp; a reducer on the primary fermenter and none on the secondary and thats for a very good reason. The new tap I bought (at Big W) for the secondary (Willow conversion) didn't have one and nobody seems to sell them. Everybody will sell me a new tap with one attatched but I'm ...

Just by the by the beer I'm drinking at the moment is the sister beer of the one mentioned above - it has the addition of app. 200g honey. It's coming up on two months old now and I am enjoying it a lot. Aforementioned Hoegaarden fan is suitably polite. I had a few jars of Hoegaarden in the CBD on ...

KP, I also have some hospitality experience and can agree with you about punters who know everything. Tell them you have named all the glasses and only serve coke or post mix in glasses whose name begins with A-L. In my experience a quick going over on the sink brush in some not too soapy water, a ...

Oscar, if you haven't already I would mosey down to my local brew shop (do a search on this site for locations) and have a chat. Without going into a full invetory of what you might need I will say that if you intend to use bottles to contain your brew I strongly recommend a bench capper and a ...

Every time I have added honey to a brew (twice) I have gotten questionable hydro readings. First I tried app. 150gm then app. 250gm. No noticeable change in flavour but definitely a tad drier.

Hambone, if you are going to stick with bottles for a awhile you must get a bottle tree and a bench capper. They may seem like expensive items now, but two brews later you will have forgotten what you paid for them. Consider them an investment in your beermaking future; if your brewing routine is ...
