Mouldy fermenter

Okay, I know it's sacrilege, but I've left my empty fermenter outside in the elements for a few months.

As a result of this, there's a thin layer of mould on the inside of the lid.

I need to know an appropriate disinfectant to use to ensure a complete kill. Is bleach enough, or do I need something ...

There's a bloke in Joondalup who runs a pretty decent homebrew store, but I got the feeling he was struggling a bit customer-wise.

Now Westbrew have opened up a store 2 minutes down the road from his, probably stealing the majority of his remaing patrons.

Bastards!

The term 'Green Dragon' usually refers to soaking pot in vodka for a lengthy period of time, then drinking it.

I haven't tried that either.

If someone gives it a shot, let us know how it goes.

As THC has really low solubility in water, I dunno if you're gonna find much of it dissolved into your beer.

Fermenting time

Hey guys,

I've got a brew in my secondary that I've kinda neglected because I've been too busy.

It's been in there for about a month.

It's still good to bottle, right?

dna, there's a place called TWOC Home Brew Supplies in Bibra Lakes that's really good, but it's a helluva drive for me so I've only made it there once.

Boiling protocol

Hey,

I was wondering what everyone's general procedure is with doing the boil - ie boiling of malts, can ingredients, hops, etc. and the order and duration that they are added/boiled.

I'm guessing a lot of people differ on this subject, so I was looking to get a few different ideas.

Also, another ...

Damn - I just spent a good hour or so washing and bottle-brushing my empties with brewers detergent, rinsing, then washing in no-rinse sanitiser. They're drying now. I wish I had've read this thread before I wasted all the time with the detergent and brush...

Thanks Aussie.

I tried pinching, but the tube was too rigid for me to pinch it completely closed.

I finally realised that after a few seconds of having the tap on full, the bubbles cleared up.

The bubbling only really affected about the first five litres that went into the secondary - is this ...

An update - IT'S STILL HAPPENING!!

If I have the tap on a setting where bubbling is minimalised, the rate of transfer is so slow that it'll take all day. Every time I open the tap a little more, a continuous stream of small bubbles goes flying through the tube. It's killing me!!

Racking disaster?

So I'm currently midway through racking for the first time.

When I started transferring into the secondary, I had a whole heap of bubbles running through the racking tube. This continued for quite some time, until I eventually set the tap right so the bubbling was minimised.

I'm worried that the ...

Splashing!

Hey guys,

A quick question about moving fermenters around. I hear that splashing of the wort can spoil beer. Does this mean that once fermentation has started, I should keep the fermenter in the same spot until fermentation has finished and the beer has been racked/bottled?

I recently finished my ...

I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with my hop choice as well - I'm going to try a dark bitter, kinda Toohey's Old style. I've got a Beermaker's Old kit, and I'm going to add a mixture of dried dark malt extract, dextrose and dried corn syrup. I'll be using Safale yeast also.

I've ...

Homebrew Books

Hey everyone,

First up thanks to all the contributers on this board, I've just found it (and just started homebrewing) and I'm grateful for the wealth of information you guys provide here.

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a good book on homebrewing - I've read the homebrewing section ...
