yes i learned the hard way when once leaving the fermenter on the cold garage concrete floor to keep the temp down. My 2 year old found the glad wrap irresistible and poked a heap of finger holes in it when i had my back turned for a second.

When using the glad wrap, you don't get the burp of an airlock (which so many people on here seem to like), but you get a really nice dome in the glad wrap that lets you know fermentation is happening. Also, it is amazing how much more you can see going on inside the fermenter when you use glad wrap ...

I think you should try and stick to the NZ style hops however fuggles might be a good substitute. You could also download Qbrew for free and have a go at formulating your own recipe based on the info supplied by Monteiths.

Try The Country Brewer: http://www.countrybrewer.com.au/category38_1.htm

They stock this hop as do most HB shops. Check your spelling of the Hop.

p.s. to me that recipe does not appear close to Monteith's Black, which I think only has an IBU of 16? The coopers stout plus the extra ...

I too have given up on lids and airlocks. I just use the cling wrap and the rubber o'ring as others have said. It works a treat.

We are all entitled to our own opinions. I was just giving "MY" opinion of LCPA based on the bottle I tried recently. Sure, I will try it again, but maybe it's just not a beer for me.

The TCB American Ale wetpak, which I brewed recently is "in my opinion" a better beer than the LCPA I tried, (and ...

After reading this thread I decided to bite the bullet and order myself a fridgemate. Arrived within a day and a half of ordering (thanks Ross). I have already got the extra bits and pieces from Dick Smith ($20 all up).

So for about $70 I have myself an awsome digital fridge controller, which beats ...

Give them a bit more time. I did roughly the same brew. Coopers bitter and BE2. After 2 months in the bottle it has turned out to be a good beer.

Most of the guys I bump into at the HB section at Walshes hardware have also bared the HB shop for one reason or another (price, shit service/advice, stock etc). Walshes have the advantage of being able to sell their HB gear at very competitive prices because they rely mainly on the hardware side ...
